We have a combined anchor and tri light at the top of the mast. There is only one switch on the main elec panel for this light. When we bought the boat, if you turned this switch on, both the lights would come on!

I have recently disconnected the +ve wire to the tri inside the boat where all the wires from the mast come into the saloon, so we at least have a useable anchor light. What I would like to do is to instal a small switch allowing you to choose to power either light.

What is such a switch called, where can I buy one and how do I wire it up?

Thanks.

If you are replacing the switch on the panel you will need an on-off-on latching version.

If you are fitting it as an additional switch which takes the power from the existing switch you will need an on-on latching version.

I want to fit an additional switch that will allow you to choose which light comes on once you have operated the main switch on the panel at the chart table.

Can get them as rocker switches (eg http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/everel-16a-rocker-switch-change-over-spdt-black-gu50e )or as toggle switches also with a centre off position.

I would want to locate it at the chart table with the other switches

I have one on my switch panel except that in one position the tricolour comes on, in the other position the deck level lights come on .

Thanks Vic. Given I will never wish to operate the switch when underway, I am happy for it to be located at the mast support in the saloon. It will make installation sooooo much easier too!:D

I am delighted to report that I now have a switch that puts either the anchor or the tricolor mast head lights on! All completed for a few pounds spent in Maplins. :D

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. :encouragement:
