Mast step plinth

I have to cut 40mm off my mast due to corrossion. I then intend to raise the step on my Tomahawk 25 by putting a 40mm thick hardwood plinth between the aluminium step and the coach roof. Can anyone recommend which type of wood is best for this?

i would use teak

When I did this, I used mahogany. Varnishing this little bit of wood did become a chore out of all proportion to it's size, though. I suggest teak might be more 'easy care'.
