Mast Heel Casting

The foot of my mast is filled with an alloy casting which has holes cast in for attaching the kicker and downhaul. The hole for the kicker is broken, leaving two jagged ends on the casting. If I fill this gap with a reasonably thick bridge of Plastic Padding will this suffice? Is there any other kind of 'plastic metal' which would be better? I had considered using an alloy or stainless tube to take the abrasion, rather than have the shackle direct on to the PP.

Due high loads on the kicker would not be any good using plastic padding. I have the same problem and have riveted a large kicker fitting (a large eye would do) onto the rear of the mast just above the foot casting. After all you have a similar fitting pop riveted onto the boom and is well capable of taken the loads expected of a kicker.

but it's a mast down thing. This new fangled TIG/MIG welding ( I never know which does what) kit means you can get a new one welded on. When I had the E Boat I had both lugs break of the heel section. They were sorted for £30.
