"Have it on good authority who does not want to be quoted that the Governor of the Mugla province who got "suckered" into authoritizing the "Blue Card" system has now been reassigned to Antalya.

There was a meeting in Kas this past week attended by all marina managers and various government departments where the Blue Card was discussed and it seems that it was accepted that this was unenforceable but as it is on the books the Coast Guard can take action is they are so inclined but are not expected to do so. Seems that this will be one of the laws available to hit you over head with if you don't behave correctly to the Coast Guard or other authority but generally not enforced.

As is often said in Turkey "the law is there for guidance, not enforcement".

I hope arm pits of the "do gooders" who started this farce are infested with the fleas of a thousand camels.

Cheers

Good news if this Blue Card scheme is only used to catch and punish the real offenders, rather than to penalise yachtsmen. Having seen a trip boat discharge sewage over the sunken city of Kekova, I think I know who the real offenders are. It will also be good if the scheme actually results in pump out stations being used by trip boats and charter operators. The idea always had merit as we all want clean seas, but the scheme as drawn up was just unworkable, with no possibility of providing the required facilities to pump small quantities out of a very large number of boats, but pumping large quantities out of a smaller number of bigger boats including all trip boats and gulets would make great sense.

Quite so How many older (and not so older) gulets do you reckon have holding tanks?

I have no Idea. I went on a gulet cruise about 6 years ago on a big and then fairly new gulet, which did have them, but the captain told me that there were very few facilities to pump out, so he just discharged the tanks whenever he was on a leg of the cruise that took him well offshore. I think that he was probably more responsible than most.
