A week ago my Westerly Oceanranger was lifted out for the winter and yesterday I paid her a visit. After 6 months afloat, I'm used to the waterline being badly stained by this time of the year and which is always hard to remove. However as I was looking at the waterline yesterday I noticed that where I had used masking tape in the spring, just above the boot topping, there was an unmistakable decrease in the staining. The only way I can explain this is that the almost invisible glue residue left on the hull, after the masking tape was removed, signifcantly reduced the level of staining through the summer. Any other idea why the staining should be so much less and is there anything in the masking tape glue that might be used to develop an anti-staining product in the future ?
