Mascot 910
I am thinking of buying a Mascot 910. I have seen the boat in the marina and it is obviously a well built and comfortable yacht. What I do not know about are her sailing qualities. I do not expect her to be fast but will she look after herself, and me, in a seaway?
I would appreciate views from any one with experience of the type.

I have limited practical experience of the boat, but I did do the trials for the Yachting Monthly report on the Mascot 910 which appeared in August 1988.

The hull is actually a good, moderate displacement, moderately long keeled design which sails well. She has a conservative but efficient sail plan. There was a real problem, on the boat we tested, with the organisation of the sail handling lines and reefing, which were all managed by two winches with no jammers. We were promised, and I hope it happened, that this was to be improved. If not, no doubt previous owners will have done somethign to improve the situation on the boat you are looking at.
We were quite complimentary about the accommodation but my memory is that it reflected it's Baltic background a bit and might not be ideal for extended offshore cruising in British waters. She is, however, one of the prettiest wheelhouse cruisers around.

I was looking at one in Croabh Haven in the summer and tend to agree with James in that the sailplan looked quite small. They seem to hold their money and I thought at the time that although they are quite a pretty boat, I might be tempted to look for an LM instead or if the funds would stand it a Halberg Rassey 94. I think I felt that the mascot was a bit lightweight somehow which isn't a very good description but is the best I can do from memory!!

Thanks for comments, James and Claymore. I had thought about the lack of cleats and winches after I left the boat. This example has clearly not been used for any very serious sailing. I need to look again to see how easy it would be to put in a couple of self tailers etc.
I get the feel that the hull design is good and the sail plan adequate if controls are there.
