Marseille MP2 airport to Port Saint Louis. Any one done it Please?

Hi, we have friends who did this in reverse 18months or so ago. Options were:-
1. Taxi at about 100 euros so not cheap.
2. By bus from Port St Louis via Port De Bouc over night then on to Marignane, so would assume you could do this in reverse.
They chose the latter and the hotel was about 40 euros. Bus journeys are relatively cheap, so you could do it at about half the cost depending on numbers travelling.
Suggest you check it all out on line as subject to your landing time you may even get done in a day and without the need to stay over.
Sorry I can't advise where to Google as all our stuff on our boat near Toulon and we still in UK.
Trust this is of help.

Thanks, It is all a bit piece meal. Lots of similar journeys in France have been difficult to plan ( get info for) on line but do them once and it all seems easy!!
I note that 'Navy Services' ( where we are) claim to have a taxi service but , of course, that may be the 100 euro job!! Arriving at 1600 so a fair bit of the day left!

I plan to fly back from Cagliari to Marseille MP2 airport. I then have to get to Port Saint Louis. Not a great distance but no good train route that I can see. has anyone done this?
Many thanks

The twice I've done it I've been given a lift by Oscar @ Navy Service in his BMW - he asked for €50 to cover the petrol, which was peanuts. The alternative was a 3-change bus trip, which only fitted once a day via Marignane.

PS He only speaks French or German.

I've done it a few times but only sensible option I've found is an airport Joe Le @€100 I'm afraid... allow 50minutes or so

Thanks all.
I note on the Port Saint Louis commune website that there is a bus from Port Saint Louis to Marseille station where I guess there will be shuttle of some kind to the airport. We are sailing out from Port Saint Louis and flying back so I guess there is a chance to sus out the bus option.

We are doing the trip in a couple of weeks time. Going by train from Marseille to Arles then bus to Port St Loius. The bus times are on the web and think the total trip cost is about €15. Used on site taxi at Navy Service on the way out last year about €100 to Marseille.

www.lepilote.com plans the route for you.
As far as I know and I intend to find out the hard way shortly, Bus Line Cartreize runs a new route No. 83 from Margignane Airport to at Least Martigues, but it may go all the way to Port St. Louis, will have to check. I only need to go as far as the Hotel du Police in Martigues (heehee!)Previously we had to go south east to Marseilles St.Charles Bus station (Gare Routier I think) and then change to another bus for Martigues. This may well be the way you end up going.Hope your flight lands early in the day?
As we plan to do this regularly we have purchased pre-paid Cartreize cards which save some Euros. These are available for us at the tourism office at the Town Hall in Martigues (Hotel de Ville) and may also be available in St Charles Gare Routier, Marseille. The cards last for many years without expiry.

Hi again Pcaterall,
Here is a phone No. for Cartreize as there is no trace of the new busNo 083 on either lepilote.com or cartreize.com. It may make an appearance soon!
Here is the contact No.0.810.00.13.26 I expect it will be 0033.810.00.13.26 from outside France.Perhaps it will not even work!

Apparently the easiest route is to get a shuttle bus from Marignane Airport to the train station. Train to Arles then bus to Port Saint Louis, buses directly outside railway station.
There are taxi companies in Port Saint Louis, or, I have just heard that there is now a navette that runs from Port Saint Louis to both P.Napoleon & Navy Service.

Many thanks to you all for the advice. I did find that ligne 34 bus on le pilot It seemed to stop every 500 yards and took over 2 hours. The idea of train to Arles then bus down may work as from Arles is more direct.
Thanks again.

PS... and on closer inspection the direct bus from airport to Marignane then another to Port Saint Louis seems pretty good

Hi Again pcaterall,
The change to line 2 from the 038 is at Martigues, a pretty little "Venice of the South" Quench your thirst if you have time in the tree-shaded Place des Aires.I'll be about early May and may be at the Acueil berths near the town hall whilst I ready up for sea!PM if thought useful!

Thanks for that. Would Martigues be a 'first stop' from Port Saint Louis ? We have been inland for 2 seasons so need a handy port of call once in the wet stuff Only able to stay overnight at Port Saint Louis once afloat and it would be nice to test everything on a short trip ( to somewhere nice!!)

Hi Pcaterall,
Yes,good first stop if provisioning is important. Mast height at swing rail span I see from Plan2 Nav chart is 21 metres. Motorway bridge is clearance 44 metres. There is also Port de St. Gervais towards the north of Gulf de Fos. Port de Bouc is just inside the Cana de Caronte, to Stbd, watch out for moving tugs and ships. So once inside there's plenty of depth between the markers to go all the way to Ferrieres.Nets are stretched underwater in two places, and I have had to wait whist fish are collected by individuals in a small punt, scuttling across!Once past the Rail bridge there are channel markers to starboard indicating the approach to the Port-a-Sec, Port Maritima.A stop might be made here temporarily if permitted as there is a DIA supermarket just outside the gates, after the button roundabout. There is another dry port on the port side of the canal for smaller craft and mobos. There can be a good flow either way in certain meterological conditions.Keep an eye out for a wide branch canal to port, around the town hall.Usually one can berth here, or at the Acueil pontoon to do shopping.A free ferry connects with the other side to allow access to the Leader Price Supermarket, small but useful.
A few days might be spent here if desired, enjoying the sights. It is a very pretty area.I have not gone through the big lifting bridge, to the Etang de Berre, perfectly possible, we just prefer to head to the open sea when ready.Usually getting East as quick as possible is the plan, to get beyond the Mistral winds.
Having said all that, the marina up in the basin in Port St. Louis itself is very good value, has super showers, and there is an Intermarche (fairly sizeable) just a few blocks away.I'm guessing you are down the canal a bit? PM if you want us to know what either is sailing!Possibly the further behind one leaves the big mosquitos, the better, and from this perspective alone, Martigues is a more prudent destination.

For stocking up purposes, apparently Intermarche now offer a delivery service to Navy Service.
Wish that had been available when we were there! :)

.replying to myself here!
Arrived on Labour Day,no Cartreize buses operated!Shuttle to StCharles Gare and SNCF train to Martigues!
At least an expensive taxi was avoided!
