Hi SailaboutVic,
You can moor to a wall at the Town Hall at Ferrieres, entering at Port de Bouc.Sometimes the floatel "Van Gogh" uses it overnight, but seldom enough. If you have AIS you can track him.In the lockless Canal de Caronte, current can be either way, fishing nets may be raised from the bed of the canal occasionally,Railway Bridge clearance is 19m,Motorway 90m clearance.
A lifting bridge (ch12 Port de Bouc ) admits vessels to the Etang de Berre.

There is also a pontoon d'Accueil there which is checked for arrivals each day/evening.The charge would be small in any case.
Electricity and water if required, which would probably mean paying for the berth.
There used to be free mooring at a knuckle to Stb just outside the Marina at Port ST.Louis as the canal opens into the basin, better be "en Panne" if stopping here as the Marina folk will be along to tell you to scram, which they cannot as far as I know, but the Port of Marseille can make you move, but probably won't.Port St.Louis is a bit remote, but has a supermarket and some cafes.
Good news is that Cartreize, the bus co has a new service beginning lat this month No 83 I think, enquire at the Tourist Office, just down and across the road from Cafe Sud /Ibis Hotel.Football stadium car park is free, seldom a match on.
Best of luck anhy more info glad to oblige.
