...First time poster hereabouts as I'm a salty rag and stick type but yesterday had an afternoon at Marlow. Wandered along the tow path in lovely sunshine with admittedly the odd shower but absolutely no boats moving at all. Seemed very quiet for what must be peak season? There were half a dozen boats moored alongside the quay but absolutely no moving activity at about 16.00hrs. Had dinner in town later and ditto; very quiet. Is the Thames much quieter than previous years?

Just returned from 3 weeks up the Thames and this is the quietest the river has been at this time of year I can recall. Olympics may have had something to do with it however. Usual spots when sun came out at weekends were busy (Windsor,Cookham,Marlow,Pangbourne,Abingdon) but midweek pleasantly deserted.

Penton to Windsor Marina on Tuesday and back yesterday. Was quite surprised how busy it was both days considering it's mid week. Windsor itself very quiet - take your pick as far as moorings were concerned.
