Marlow Reflective Lifeline

Leaving a cockpit or cabin light on is ... obvious. There is also the issue of making the anchored boat more obvious to late night arrivals and wee hour revelers who don't look up. The anchor light also disappears as you get close (lens angle). This is not solved by solar path lights, as none of them stay lit all night after 6 months of use (batteries go) or in cloudy weather.

Back to lifelines and visibility while sailing a night, why not yellow Amsteel? Probably more visible than dark rope with a single reflective thread, and the light does not need to play on it from the viewer's head lamp.

We have in-mast furling which leaves reflective strips unobstructed on the boom, red for port and green for starboard naturally but the white stuff would work too. If that’s not an option then stick a length of prismatic tape on the mast.

I’ve used reflective lines for tents and they work well when reflecting a torch beam. As suggested, these could be spiral wrapped around you wire guardlines. Glow in the dark stuff is OK to see when close up but not at any distance.

Why not a small LED lantern hanging in the cockpit? Cheap & cheerful.
It would ruin your night vision when sailing.

The 'find your way back to the correct boat from the pub' was a bit tongue in cheek, while useful I am looking to replace some ancient wire lifelines with something that is strong , feels better in the hand and is visible as I make my way along the deck at night in the glow from a headtorch.

I'll be calling Marlow in the morning as they are very shy at responding to emails.
