Our yacht is now in multiple ownership. We really need to have all sorts of stuff labelled up including emergency distress notes as well as the usual switches.
I plan to get some of those sticky sheets with labels ready printed plus we will get indelible ink markers for notices we have to write.
I would like to find a good little DynoType ( we used to call them) so we can emboss notices onto plastic strips. I cant seem to locate these and will value links to a source.
Any hints or tips on 'marking up' solutions are welcome.

For labeling, a Brother P-Touch printer. Don't waste money on printed label sheets Peter, the Brother will do all you need. Very neat, lots of different colours and will stand quite a lot of UV exposure. I wouldn't use cheap copy tape, stick to the original stuff, i get mine from here http://www.labelzone.co.uk/tz-tape/c32

A lot of commercial boats I work on end up having traffolite labels as everything else eventually fails. Broads boats also use traffolite as they are nearly bomb proof!

Sticky labels are ok for small use but don’t take well to scrubbing, accidental damage, constant rope rubbing etc...

You need these
Everyone will know what you mean when they see these on the clutches. Absolutely no confusion.

Understandably the forum editor will not allow the use of certain words so before you can use the link please insert 4 letters of sexual connotation in place of the 4 removed letters****
For the " luminous blank" I would suggest "That ****er"
Great for teaching beginners in a close fought race at the turning mark

Apologies if that upsets anyone

Compared to the Brother labels those old Dymo printers are absolute rubbish. Would be like swapping all of your lines for hemp. For instance, stuck to clutches, outside in the weather, these will last for years. Last time we had a thread about labels almost everyone that posted favoured these.

Peter, if you would care to PM me with a few of your label requirements, along with a name and address, i'll print them off and post them, so you can see how good they are, no cost.

I have black on white, white on black, black on yellow, black on clear, white on clear or blue on white.

I have a P-touch label printer im going to sell cheap (£20) as the wife has treated me to a better one that will do heatshrink. I'll have to dig it out and get the model number, pics etc if you're interested? Very easy to use and professional looking.

Paul, many thanks I will send a pm for just one sample will be great. There are some old DYMO type labels still on the masts and they have worn well especially as the last 4 years have been in the med. Also thanks VicS for the Dymo rather than Dyno steer!! Thanks as always for all of your advice.

+1 for Brother label maker I've used them for years for various applications in addition to the boat.

I also use a Brother P Touch - just make sure you get the UV Resistant tape - from memory it's Tz tape. Bought initially by my wife for use in the garden for labelling plants - she's never used it but I've used it for all labelling on the boat. It's superb' labels are still perfectly legible after 12 yrs. outside.
