Maritime Mobile Ham Forum

In the process of trying to get my ham license, I have been looking around the net for sources of information and help in learning how to use a ham radio on board. One of the most helpful sources of information has been hams that respond to emailed requests for information on how to study for the test, what to expect during testing, etc.

In the hope of making it easier to find the right information, I put together a forum for those interested in ham radio and marine ssb on board a cruising sailboat. I would bet that there are many more people trying to learn how to use ham radio on board. Here is a link to the forum, feel free to start a discussion:

how would you...

run a joint ham/ssb forum if the hams refuse to talk to anyone who isn't one of them?

at least freemasons and jehovah's witnesses will talk to outsiders!

If you post, be aware that the forum is mainly US-based and terms like 'Long Range Certificate' have no meaning to them.

If they want to use Marine SSB radios, they pay the licence fee; no test and away they go!
