I think i've gone and broken my gearbox.
i have a mariner 48 on my fishing boat, and following a slight "low water" incident, it won't properly engage astern (or reverse if you is a newbie)... I have the thing in a million bits all over my workshop, but what i lack in the tool to remove the plasic retaining ring, to remove/replace the gearbox internals.
Now the crux...
Does anyone know where i can get a new (or used) retaining ring... if i break this one (which is highly likely).. Iv'e trawled the web but not sure of the correct name, which makes a search difficult.... this is the plastic ring that holds the internals into the lower case.
OR
has anyone got a spare 48/50/55/60 hp mariner with a blown powerhead, that needs to be recycled?
(see what i did there??... doin' my bit for the environment!)
Basically... i'm in the poo, when SWMBO wants to go fishing, i need to react fast.
