anyone know the correct spark plug gap for a 6hp twin cyl mariner outboard or adownload for manual for same engine, ready to give up on my volvo inboard cheers
Taint that critical.
Depending on what grade is suitable for your motor(what year is it?)
It,s either 10 thou or 25 thou.
Some outboards are fitted and "suited" to standard type "ordinary common or garden lawnmower /moped" plugs.
Some for reasons which would take another post to explain are fitted with plugs that are used with a "bigger gap" ie 25 thou.
Regarding a "manwel"(I know northing I ,m from Barcelona) I,m sure VicS will be along shortly (who are you calling shortly)? He seems to have info on where "Manuels" are sourced /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
[/ QUOTE ] Well here I am, but I am not really an expert on outboards although I know a bit about some of the small Evinrudes (Likewise a bit of a Jerk of all trades)
I suggest that the correct plug should be fitted. Some have projecting electrodes which can hit the piston if they are not the right ones. Get a grade which is way too cold and you could have fouling problems, way too hot and you could burn the piston but with light use that's very unlikely. Sometimes different plugs are suggested for low speed use and continuous high speed running.
Also establish the correct gap.
Your dealer should be able to advise. I've got this website noted under NGK plugs http://www.swordfishingcentral.com/ngk-spark-plugs.php You'll find an applications list for NGK plugs there. Alternatively Google for NGK and Champion. I know there is an applications list and equivalents list out there somewhere.
It would be better though to discover Mariner's recommendations. The plug manufacturers recommendations are not always the same.
There are two ranges of manual available "Clymer" and "Seloc" Try Amazon.
The manufacturers manuals are always better though as the others generalise too much.
For advice on outboards the best place that I know is the iBoats forums where you will find separate boards for different makes. Be sure to quote the full model details ie Make, HP, year, modeland serial numbers though.
This site should enable you to determine the year of your engine.
