My Mariner 2 stroke 15HP does not always stop running when the ignition is turned off or the kill cord pulled. I assume that the ignition barrel / switch will need replacing but would appreciate guidance if others have experienced a similar problem. i.e. could it be a loose earth or bad connection elsewhere?

Thank you.

Yes it could be a bad connection.

Check the wiring between the CD module and the switches.

if there is separate earth connection check that.

The fact that the kill switch does not work suggests that it is bad connection somewhere rather than the key switch.

It would be wise perhaps to start by checking the kill switch itself.

The fault could be within the CD module

I'd concentrate on getting the kill switch to work. It is a vital safety factor and once working you can stop the engine. Hopefully once that is sorted you will have corrected a fault which is also preventing the key switch from working

Does the engine start without the kill cord?
How long does the engine run for after switch off?

The stop will either be by breaking the ignition lead or earthing it . If it's earthing then I would suggest the switches are are either or but breaking then both switches should be on.
