Hi,

Just checking my small Mariner 5hp outboard for the winter and when priming I noticed that the primer bulb would not go hard. Put the engine in a wheelie with water to check and noticed fuel coming out of the top of the carburettor in two places. I have taken a photo of top of carb which shows two copper outlets which I think should have some small hoses connected but unsure.

Grateful if someone could shed some light on this, I replaced the fuel line thinking that was the problem but obviously not..

Help Appreciated

Harry

I think the pipes are just overflows to take any excess fuel out through the bottom of the cowl. Sounds like your float needle might be sticking or the float height is wrong.

Or you have a split in the float and it has filled with petrol so that it will not float and shut off the flow via the needle valve. I had this happen to me on one of the Carbs on my 60hp mariner.

Eaasy to check by just removing the float valve chamber

Thanks folks for the info, I'll pull the carb and clean, I'm sure theres a rebuild kit of sorts, new needle, gaskets etc.

Appreciated

Just checked inside the fuel tank and uptake pipe fell off as I was taking it out. New piece of pipe with small jubilee clip cured the problem...
