Hi all ...

Slight problem with my 1997 Mariner 60 3cyl 2 stroke on my Wilson flyer 17.

Last few sessions out have been ok but did note problems with the tell tale flow being rather weak. We took the bottom leg off and cleaned all debris out and checked the impeller which was ok. Took the thermostat and poppet valve out. While the valve was out there was masses of water flowing so no blockage that we can see. Thermostat worked fine in hot water and the valve looked ok with no damge. Re-assembled.

Nest trip out after about 10 minutes near full throttle she dramatically slowed down by herself to just a few knots speed max. We cut the engine in mid water for around 30 mins while we fished and started her. Again she got to full throttle ok with plenty of power then backed off sharlply again after a few minutes. Came in and checked the poppet valve again which seemed ok. Did a compression test and all was fine there. New spark plugs fitted too. She sounds absolutely fine in the test tank with no undue noises etc.

Can the poppet valves fail or be faulty even though they look in good clean condition with plenty of spring tension ?

Can anyone point to anything else i should be checking other than what we have already done.

thanks .. :)
