Morning all, the HT leads on my Mariner 60 are looking very tatty, cracked rubber caps etc. Are they replaceable or sealed into the CDM unit? I gave one of them a tug but it didn't seem to want to come out......

Hello
I have a 60 hp 2 stroke 2005 Bigfoot mariner outboard.
I was thinking of replacing ht leads and decided to check the fitting. I pulled off one lead from one of the cdm’s and there was no terminal on the dnd of the ht lead. In the cdm socket I can se the end of a self tapping screw. It appears the ht lead is held is connected to the cdm by this screw- which I was surprised by. Is this normal?!
I took the spark plug ebd of the lead off and screwed the lead back into the screw in the cdm socket and reconnected it up. Seems to work ok but I have ordered a new cdm in case. The cdm currently fitted appears to be a genuine part.
So the questions I have other than asking if this is normal are - Is it possible to replace ht leads on these engines as I only see got leads with terminals being sold or should the cdm be replaced - I see cdms seem to be sold with the lead attached.
Seems wasteful to have to replace the cdm + lead when all I wanted to do was replace the leads for general maintenance and because one of them is slightly abraded from the hood being taken on and off.
Many thanks !

Hi sparkie
I just saw your post - I asked a similar question just now- it may be of use to you. Did you find the answer?
Cheers

Thank you Fishtigua- I was trying to find where I can check that.

Mine is 0P341870 (60PTBF, 2005, Belgium)

Thanks

Thanks
Yes, the one I bought is the eBay one - as a spare really in case I screwed up the existing one when I pulled out the lead. So it does seem that these are sealed with the lead in place.
Do you know if it is possible to get into the cdm unit without destroying it? I’m wondering if I can do that I can screw back the lead I took off more securely - although it seems secure now - but just to be extra sure.
Thanks for your help.

Nope, they're sealed in a resin. Just bolt the new one on. The Merc ones are all now made in China these days, good to carry a spare any way.
