Hi everyone.

I have a Mariner 4hp 2 stroke outboard (see picture), and I want to try and convert it to remotes. I have the remotes kit, but I can't work out how to attach either the gear or the throttle linkages.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can provide pics of the outboard or cables if anyone needs it.

Thanks

I have seen this diagram, but to be honest I don't find it very easy to understand. The main problem I have is how to link the throttle cable to the remote.

I may be misunderstanding your question and because I don't know the engine I'm only going by what I can make of the diagram...
Part 3 appears to be a short bit of cable linking the carburettor to the remote linkage.
Parts 13,17,18 and 19 pass through some sort of hole already in the casing or on the engine ,6,3,5 and 4 go into the other side of the hole to form a linkage which will pull cable 3.
Parts 12,16,15 fit on the end of your new throttle cable, Part 14 screws onto the end of the cable and then clips onto the ball on part 13.
The outer covering of the new throttle cable clips into bracket 20.

Does that make any kind of sense?

Yes. #13 goes through a pre-cast boss in the shroud casting. (With a grommet in it at the moment) #2 (bell-crank) bolts to the end of the shaft on #13.
Rod #3 goes straight from that bell-crank up to the carb.
Bracket #20 bolts to two holes on the shroud casting and the cable clips into that and onto the ball at the top of #13.

It's quite sensible once you install the bits. The thing to do is take pics inside and outside before removing anything. Then you have a record of how it was if you get lost.
Ignore the cables unless you are having a remote key start.

I did the same job on the 4 stroke, which was more complex as it used a cable from the bracket up to the carb.

In this piccy the bracket #2 would go where you see the vertical bracket just behind the fuel filter. The bits on the outside of the shroud would be about the same.

Having looked at your pic I'm not sure the motor has the castings in the shroud to fit remotes. Are you sure the motor is capable of taking them?

See how this one has a grommet at the bottom of the shroud (cowling) and two bolt bosses for the cable bracket

Its the same as the one in the ebay listing. The only thing is that the throttle and gear cable on my boat are the C14 type rather than than the 33c which I need. Does this mean I will need to buy new cables?
