Just changed the 20yo impeller on mine this afternoon, what a blinking palaver! Reconnecting was a serious challenge!!!!! That little copper pipe will haunt my dreams!

I was tempted to bore another hole in the leg (like the gear rod access) closer to the action and rubber bung it.Agree, its a pig of a job, after taking the gearbox off my tohatsu 3.5hp (same engine) a number of times, ive worked out a few thing to make it relatively stress free, firstly reattach the lower unit with the engine vertical not at an angle and certainly not horizontal. Attach a piece of wire to the copper water tube through the gear linkage access hole, this allows you to manoeuvre the the pipe into position. Re attach the gear linkage first, then the copper water pipe 2nd. Ive reduced the job from an hour of cursing to just a few minutes.
