Hi all,
Have just joined and new to boating.
I have acquired a running Mariner 20e engine for use on Shetland 535.
I am having trouble getting hold of parts for this engine and looking for a lower gear casing complete, any suggestions?
Many thanks

You dont give enough information to precisely identify the engine. Serial number , or at lest year of manufacture required.

However ITYWF that 6A9 makes it Japanese made possibly from the early 1980's and probably a re-badged Yamaha

If that is so complete gear-case assemblies are unavailable and so too are a large number of the individual components

Why do you need the complete assembly?

Many thanks for info the serial number is S250303. The engine has been dropped at some point and cracked the bottom casing, the drive shaft will not stay in the housing as threads are damaged and the gears are very rusty as they have been left outside. Thought it would be easier to replace the complete lower gear casing but maybe not now!!

I make that a 1982 model http://download.brunswick-marine.com/filereader/file/pdf/17/enen/outboard/japanese.pdf

as you can see from this parts list there are not many parts avaialble Mercury Mercury & Mariner Outboard Parts by HP & Liter 20HP OEM Parts Diagram for Gearhousing Assembly | Boats.net.

AFAICS Yamaha don't support anything earlier than 1984 so not much chance of finding anything by going down the Yamaha route

You best bet is to try to find a parts motor with a decent gear box. Maybe one off a later model will fit but remember you'll be investing time and money in a motor for which parts are generally in short supply
