Over the weekend tried to change the oil in the prop end of the outboard. Despite plenty of WD40 etc I cannot loosen the filler or level screws. I don't want to try too hared and strip the slots or any other damage so I'm left with the quandary: leave it or attempt to fix. I only use the outboard occasionally as I much prefer rowing but headwinds and passengers sometimes force me to.

Any ideas? Thanks in anticipation

Firstly try a big screwdriver with a good blade ( not all rounded off) that properly and fully fits the slots in the screws. If it is one with a square shank or a hexagon under the handle try a spanner while pressing down firmly so that it does not cam out and damage the slot.

If that fails then an impact driver, as suggested, is the way . but I have never had to use one yet.

It is advisable to fit new seals to the screws when refitting them.

If the old oil is not "clear and bright" you need to consider new seals on prop shaft and drive shaft

I bought very large flathead screwdriver bit on eBay to keep on the boat just to remove the drain plug in my outboard. Why they do not use an Allen head I'll never know. These are usually sold as impact driver bits but once you put it in a meaty socket set handle you can shift anything without impact.
