hi, everyone, i,m new to this site and was wondering if i could benefit from all you experts out there regarding my mariner outboard. just come back from a great weekend in anglessy and everything was going great until the sunday when i tried to start my outboard. it idled in neutral but as soon as i tried to put it in gear it kept stalling and we had to pack away early.one thing i did notice was the tell tale was very intermitent. can anybody help PLEASE.(mariner 15 hp 2 stroke 1999-2000ish) thanx.

Did you remember to Open up the air vent on the fuel tank? Sound like fuel/air starvation to me.

The telltale tends to be fairly intermittent until some throttle is applied.
Unless you mean intermittent compared to how you usually find it...

It could be something simple, fishing line or string wrapped around the prop hub. It would run fine in neutral but the moment you put it in gear it would stall.

The tell tale is after the thermostat on those engines. IE you wont get a tell tale squirt until the stat opens therefore you have to wait til the engine warms up. As for the problem stalling in gear that could be due to a too low tickover,weak slow run mixture (carb adjustment) or a collection of more serious problems but I would eliminate my first 2 suggestions first. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
