marine vhf antenna

I presume this is for a motorboat? The 6dB gain and deck mounting usually indicates its suitability for such an application. On a motorboat, there is less rolling(hopefully) so a higher gain antenna can be used, with a masthead mount on a sailing boat, most use a 3dB gain as the main lobe it propogates has a greater verical distribution so that it remains effective when heeled - otherwise one side you transmit to the sky, the other side into the sea.

Fitting should be a simple matter of screwing it onto the deck and running the cable to the set - plug and play.

It's an extremely obscure make and you should be careful because it quotes the gain as 6dB rather than 6dBi or 6dBd. 6dB is the most meaningless of these largely meaningless gain figures and indicates an attempt to confuse.
If you want a 6' fishing rod antenna there are more reputable manufacturers available - Glomex, Shakespeare, Sirio.
On a small boat a 1m (3') whip antenna on an extension pole is a better bet than these fishing rod antennas because you get the combination of height and a broad radiation pattern, the best of both worlds.
