Hi all
Can you help we have been in the med for the last 7 years need a new toilet. during the last seven years we have fitted 3 replacments all manual.
We are considering an electric unit our main toilet is 5 mtrs from the holding tank so it takes a lot of pumping to clear it.
Our first thoughts was exalto unit with the pump in the engine room and fresh water flush but it appears very expensive but would be simple to service.
have any one any thoughts will try anything fed up with problem toilets

Our ‘loo’ is a fairly standard domestic unit with macerator/pump combined and domestic pressure water flush. OK, it is 240volt but only about 380wattts max on power-up.

These units are readily available in plumbing/DIY stores in France and elsewhere. Not cheap, but highly reliable ours must be 10 years old and I’ve only once had to strip it down for a good clean-out etc.

The pipe run from toilet to holding tank is equally as long as you mention, with several elbows and bends, pump has no problem coping with it.

Worthwhile looking it up to see if you can shoehorn one in, if you have an invertor to run it from?

What are you eating on board /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do they fail? If so, what happens?

or do you just fancy a change each time?

Hi richard
the reason they ar failing is we anchor for 5-6 months each year use marina for water only it takes about 30 pumps to clear toilet and the toilets are cheap plastic things.
we have been in the eastern med so when spares ar finished cheaper to fit new toilet probably made which is possibly made in china

Have you considered a Lavac manual? In my experience they are very robust, reliable and easy to service. I had Jabsco-type units on our previous boats and I found them a bit fragile, especially in a high use situation such as liveaboard. The big Henderson Mk V pump on the Lavac will atomise your waste almost as well as a macerator. The only thing is doesn't like is wet wipes.
