Icom M710 is not EEC approved.
ship radio station Papers can't be updated.
Is it illegal to have the Ssb on board ?

We had a 710 and nobody ever asked for EEC or any other approval. Also nobody ever asked to see our LRC and satellite endorsement but the course is worth doing. Bascally don't worry about it.

I think that step is a non-sequiteur, AFAIK there's noting in the licencing routine that verifies or asks if the equipment is CE marked. As a (presumed) consumer of electronic goods rather than a manufacturer there is no onus on you to ensure your posessions are CE marked.

In theory if you are ever inspected by Ofcom and they find you on a british boat using unapproved equipment you can be fined and have the klt confiscated. I do not know whether this has ever happened. Might be more likely in somewhere like Portugal where they have a beurocracy that makes its presence felt. Ours just costs.

I have just added SSB to my radio license as a test, does not ask for type or CE conformity, so License can be updated, though would still be illegal to have a non-CE approved SSB. Don't you also need a different operator's license?

We spent about a year in Portugal and nobody was intrested our VHF, SSB or SaTC terminal or radio licences. They are sticklers for anchor balls and lights.

When I appllied for adding SSB in 2004 they added MF. I had to point out it is also HF, amazing incompetencee
