You could try John Lucey (tel:01794-341044) in 'rabbit country' north of Romsey, Hants.
Or, I have just (last week) bought a 25mm sheet of 'Oriental' 1088 standard marine ply from Bamptons in Southampton (tel: 023-8022-3937) at a very competitive price (nearly half that of sources previously quoted) - but it was the last one of that grade they had!
Good luck,
Malcolm A.

Try Silverman's. They have a number of Depots - one at Borehamwood in Hertfordshire - I can't remember where else or whether there was one near you. It's a while ago but they beat Robbins price quite considerably on a high spec sapele ply - but it was a while ago.

Bought some from Hawke House a little while back, but as you say the price was astronomical. I'd searched all round all the better timber suppliers in Kent without success: I suspect it has to be regarded as a specialist product. Plenty of mahogany/sapele faced marine ply, some suppliers even denied teak-faced existed, one tried to sell me teak-patterned formica sheet to glue onto ply!

W T Edens website is www.edens.co.uk.
Look under price gude, then marine ply then boatbuilding section.
Edens are quite helpful but are mainly used to dealing with commercial quantities.
They have depots nationwide.
The designation Marine Ply [BS 1088] refers, believe to the glue. The quality of the veneers varies hugely, some of it is awful, don't just buy on price alone.

The Kent branch couldn't help me. Plenty of marine ply of course - but not teak-faced.

(P.S. I see from their site they do do it but only at the New Milton branch. They didn't tell me that!)

The last ime I needed some 1" marine ply I went to my local friendly timber merchant's and he ordered me a sheet. It came out a bit cheaper (but not much) than the likes of Robbins. As he would cut most of it for me and I could carry it home on a roof rack, the delivery cost was zero. Most "proper" timber merchants will order you any wood you like, at a price, which may not be as much as you fear. If you don't have a friendly local timber merchant or boatbuilder to approach, why not try the trade outlet of Jewson's or B&Q (or whoever).

Thanks for all the advice.

After nearly a day on the telephone the results are as follows. (All excluding VAT)

John Lucey;- engaged on each attempt
Avon Plywood;- £90 but 2-3 days delivery
Edens;- £80.79 but 2-3 days delivery
Bamptons (WBP) £69
Robbins;- £109 available
I ended up with Robbins because of location and availability and it was top quality. The point about the veneers is very important. I've had some very wooly 1088 in the past.
