Hi,

Anyone know of a supplier in Scotland who holds stock of Marine Grade Ply Certified for compliance (Lloyds for Example). Also interested if they just supply marine ply self certified by manufacturer.

Robins Timber deliver anywhere in UK and appear to feature in many Google searches and they are an obvious choice.

I am interested in a more local (Central Belt) supplier because I want to discuss face to face for other wood requirements as well.

Thanks,

Hulley Marine based at Sandpoint Marina in Dumbarton is worth a try for marine plywood. Speak to George Hulley who only deals in the best.

Hulley Marine, Sandpoint Road, Woodyard Road, Dumbarton G82 4BG
Tel 01389 742438.

Regards and Merry Xmas and A Good New Year.

I had completely forgotten about them. I was involved in a refit back in the early 80's at that yard. However, it was nothing like it looks now.

Thanks, I'll pop over there and see what's, what.

All the best, Merry Christmas and hope 2011 is good one.

Cheers,

give him a phone first, could be wrong, but i think he's stopped doing the plywood?

Marine plywood.

I would second the suggestion of talking to George Hulley but I think he gave up the BRUYNZEEL product last year. He does as others have said, know the marine business inside out.

There is a company called Timbmet who sell marine plywood and have a distribution centre in Glasgow. Never used them so not sure what they may know about the product.

They have a pdf file you can download, I tried to glue it to this posting but it exceeded the 19kb maximum of the forum.

George has given up supplying Bryunzeel. He latterly got so much hassle for supplying a premium product. Customers used to say that they could get ply from B&Q at a fraction of the cost. George in his usual initimable style told them to go and fit the **** from B&Q and come back and buy his ply in three years time when the B&Q stuff started to lift....

He willl be sorely missed when he hangs up his chandlery keys. He hasn't been too good of late.

Sorry to hear that George is not keeping so well these days. I have been a customer for a number of years and always "enjoy" his style of customer care.
Very knowledgable and helpfull. We shall all be the poorer when characters like George cease from trading.

To save you hunting:

George is a favourite character of mine. He carefully trained his customers to ask about his health, discuss the weather and only then to broach the subject of buying something. After doing a winter refit at Sandpoint I had to beg him to give me an invoice for the masses of stuff he had supplied. He has a strong pedigree in boatbuilding and is a fund of valuable information....but only if you ask him in the right way!!!!
