I wanted to ask Marinemegastore about one of their products, and tried out their 'live chat' function. After about ten minutes I got a message, so I asked my question, the chap said he'd check it out, and after an hour without an answer I decided to call it quits.
Anybody else have this experience?

(by the way, all I wanted to know was if some oars were priced per pair or not. Surely not a difficult one to answer?)

In trms of customer service, they got it completely wrong by overpromising (an online chat) and underdelivering (it didnt work).

Not good. I have experienced similar with other online stores.

Not at all helpful. I waited over two months for delivery of chain and in the interim I was demanding information on it's whereabouts by phone and chatline.
On one occasion I was online and phoned simultaneously and whilst my inbox reported the person going to check the status of my order, the same person ten minutes later answered my phone, so whatever he was doing, he wasn't doing what he said he was doing. He knows who he is.
Their prices are attractive, the service is crap. Stick to Gael Force - at least they're local.

Marine Megastore isn't a 'store' at all - its a small upstairs room on a Southampton industrial estate occupied by a couple of school-leavers posting out catalogues. They're middlemen only taking a cut of the action, and appear to hold no stock whatsoever.

I ordered a small part from them (only because the manufacturer listed them as suppliers), waited nearly two weeks for the part and for some strange reason kept getting called by them asking what I wanted to order?!

Shortly afterwards I was in the adjacent unit when a couple from Hull rocked up asking where the 'megastore' was - they were visiting the area and wanted to track down their order for which payment had been taken but with which there was some problem...

I'd advise anyone who has issues with this outfit to find out the directors names (public information) and home phone numbers and give them a hard time.

I thought they were moving out when I popped in, the place was such a mess (it's round the corner from me)

The chap there was pleasant but had no clue really, but I did get a catalogue handed to me for keeps ....!

So I went to Aladdins (or whatever they're called now) and got what I wanted from someone who could talk the talk.

In the store's defence I have used them twice and had good service both times - once to order two Admiralty Small craft Chart folios and the second time to get a bracket to hold a Glomex TV aerial. I also visited them and can agree with the commenets regarding staffed by quite young people, on a first floor and the place being a mess. However, the chap I talked with when I visited did seem to know his stuff.

I wouldn't not use them again - but having read others comments I would certainly be cautious.

I've just had a live chat with them to see if they actually had my item in stock (a Wetline dinghy). Had to wait a while between responses and at one point he went off to check the stock (presumably rummaging through the mess) without telling me.

But they've got one in stock & have said it will be with me on Friday. So we'll see how that goes. I had a poor experience of them in the past, but thought I'd give them another go given the good price and free delivery.
