looks like we are close to putting in a bid for our first boat, and our just working out our budget. Does anyone know how much it would cost to get an engineer to check over an engine in a sealine (in addition to me getting a survey done). Or has anyone got a number of someone to try. Windsor area

I think the going rate for an engine survey is about £125 per engine, £250 for twins. Most surveyors either do it themselves or have contact details of someone. If you are buying from a broker, they should be able to recommend one.

my experience is that a surveyor will tell you little more than an experienced boat owner will observe, but at some considerable cost. I would ask Tim Barfield of Tim Barfield Marine , Hampton 020 8941 2676 to give me a view on the engine.
