We have a problem with our nav lights and tricolours on our Sigma 33, wonder if anyone knows of a good marine electrician in the Gosport area who could help us. Want to get this sorted before our maiden trip over the channel. Has never worked properly since we took the mast down over the winter!

What exactly is the problem , and what did you do when you dropped the mast . I'm a little far away for hands on , so as much info as you can give. Be back later , so I'll look in on this

Thanks Dave, I'm posting this on behalf on HWMBO really who isn't allowed to access forums at work, he will post the full problem on when he gets home around 4.00, but many thanks for replying.

It's the HWMBO here :-)
The short version is that having put the mast back on in April the Anchor light, Tricolour and the decklight don't work, well not consistently anyway. We had to change the wiring in the mast as the where the wiring came out had been crushed. So with a new length of wire installed, we made sure that the relevant wires went into the right connections at the top of the mast. The issue I think is either where the mast connections mate up with the inboard connections in the heads compartment, or port side aft by the lights panel. Basically we've connected it all up and the lights work. Put the deckhead covers back on again, go away for a week, come back and they don't work anymore. Repeat as many times as you like, the end result is the same. All other Nav lights - Green/Red on the pulpit and white light on the stern work as ever (wiring doesn't go up the mast). As an aside the wind instrumentation (B&G) don't work either, but this is another matter. They did used to though before the mast came off.

I'm rather bemused by all this, because apart from anything else I know diddly squat about electrics, which doesn't really help, but if you have any ideas they'd be most welcome

I've asked Steve Jupp to have a look anyway.

Despite repeated calls to Steve and promises to collect keys from marina office and look at our boat, he still hasn't been, he says he will go on a certain day, and doesn't. This problem is now getting urgent as we are setting off for Cherbourg and CI's next Friday and will need our anchor light, otherwise we won't be able to anchor anywhere for the night. Does anyone else have any recommendations in the Gosport/Portsmouth area, or anywhere on the South Coast - we are getting desperate now! Thanks!

Sorry me again, tried to repeat an old thread and thought I had failed, so started a new one on the first page! This does say what the problem is though by HWMBO!

Steve miss an agreed time / date? Surely not. He's always been one of the most reliable guys I've had working on my boat. I suspect there might be some misunderstanding somewhere. I'd like to think that another call would sort it well in time for your holiday.

Steve came onto our boat today and fixed the problem, thanks Steve - I am very happy to retract any implications above that he is unreliable, and many apologies for any misunderstanding caused. We are happy to recommend him - we are aware how busy all marine people are at the moment and underestimated this being relative newbys to the marine life. He charged us a very reasonable price as well! Thanks again Steve!
