Seem to be having a weird problem with the RCD. Turning on the shore power and it sometimes trips, sometimes works fine but then trips hours later but the resets.

Suspect that somehow their is a short to earth but not a permanent one. I'm happy with 12v DC and simple 240 stuff but really want a pro to look at this.

Can anyone recommend someone - boat in Bursledon.

Pete Holland Auto Nautic 01243 773322. Sorted out my Victron charging system when all the others had written it off.

Is the tripping associated with rain? I'm not a fan of playing with mains electricity but possibly worth checking a few things before splashing the cash on a spark.. If you can get the connectors of your shore power cable apart, check for corrosion. You could also put a multimeter between each pair of pins to ensure there is infinite resistance between pins that aren't supposed to be connected to each other, even when you wiggle the cable. Worth checking any switches or connections in areas which might get damp (with the power disconnected). Which bit of bursledon are you in?

Hi Laika we're at Deacons. A pontoon. I had suspected the power cable and happened to have another one from previous boat so tried that and identical situation. Previous owner had replaced the RCD last winter which makes me suspect the two are connected.

Also it happened during the really dry weather we had recently as well.

Try Peter Burton, based at Deacons next door to the marina office, shares office with Atlas Marine.

+1.

I'm quite competent with electrics, he solved a problem with an earth leakage that was causing me to lose anodes rapidly that completely baffled me. I was on the hard at deacons.

He then came to my marina and put a probe in the water to double check what he'd done and to check the situation in situ. So if there is a general marina problem he will find it.

All for a very reasonable price indeed.
