There are some famous rock star marine painters, but also many others who are just as good, but perhaps not quite so (in)famous......
Ultramarini on this forum is a brilliant (IMHO) marine artist and is a keen and experienced sailor as well - her website is at www.seapaintings.co.uk
Naomi Moxon is also a very accomplished painter of boats and all else nautical - I have one of her prints hanging on my living room wall. Her website is at http://www.driftwoodarts.co.uk/
Billy Bain who left South Africa many years ago for the UK's fair shores is an amazing wild-life artist primarily and we have some of his his works. A few years ago, my wife gave him a few pictures to work from and we now have an amazing painting of the Open 60 in full flight off the cape!
The same incredible detail which Billy puts into his wildlife art, he put into our Open 60 painting.
Amazingly, his prices are incredibly reasonable as well!
If you p.m. me, I'll send you his contact details......

Had a nice one done by John Hyatt who used to be a forum regular, maybe still around.
[/ QUOTE ]Sad to report that John died of a sudden heart attack in December 06.
Barbara still keeps their boat up to scratch and has used her around the Solent, with members of our Club as crew, but finds life difficult from time to time.
You are right though, John's work was excellent and we now have a trophy in his name for the best photograph of the year.
Commissioned this water colour a few years ago by Marion Foster who lives in Emsworth from a 4 inch photo. The photo was taken on the morning I crossed the channel for the first time as a skipper on my rib so has fond memories. Water colour now hangs above the fire place at home.
