I am presently based at Almerimar on the Costa del Sol and am considering re-locating to Turkey. All recommendations of reasonably priced marinas appreciated.
I spent the winter of 89/90 in Almerimar when it was completely empty!
If I go back next year will I get a berth?
Haven't been to Turkey recently but there are plenty of spaces on the hard
at Preveza/Aktion near Levkas, Greece.
I base my boat in Finike marina (S.E Turkey) and am very happy with the facilities there. The marina is safe, the staff are friendly and the cost is very reasonable ($1250 for my 10 metre ketch per year, including haul out, pressure wash, propping and re-launch). Electricity and water is included in the price. The marinas in Turkey tend to price in US dollars as the lire is so unstable.
Finike is about the cheapest but there are deals to be had around Marmaris as there are several new(ish) marinas eager to get customers.
The nearest airport is Antalya (about 70 miles away) but the marina taxi service will do the run for 45 Euro.
What are their charges like for cats? Went to Marmaris area a few years ago and would rather like to go back, but this time with my cat. Spain seems to be getting a little bit silly on catamaran prices!!!!
Thanks,
Mike
In Fethiye there is a small liveaboard community in the winter.A lot of them anchor which is free. There is a small marina in the southwest corner of the harbour called the Han Yacht Club which is worth a visit.
I agree with Keltman - many liveaboards stay at Fethiye, also around Gocek and Kekova. If you don't need to leave your boat then there really is no need to pay anything. All these places have very safe anchorages although at Gocek you might need to move about a bit depending on the wind direction.
You should get a berth, depending on yacht length. Yachts arriving for "winter" earlier each year. Ownership and attitude towards yachtsmen has changed. OK if you want to stay in the water. Will not let you live aboard ashore, or work on your own yacht. Electricity and water charges now EU 2.40/day + water meter charge. Many liveaboards this winter.
