Anyone noticing any developing trends, either up or down?

Brokers keep telling me that used British boats are increasingly being sold abroad, which you'd think would have led to gaps in British marinas, but I'm not seeing any evidence around the Solent. Wondering what others are seeing?

Spain is suffering, Lots of room on the Costa Del Sol. Prices held or in some cases reduced.

The situation is a bit Grim....

Not sure about prices but feedback on the Hamble earlier in the year indicated that there were spaces and as I understand it not too long ago that there were quite lengthy waiting lists.

I heard earlier on this year that mdl had an average 61% occupancy over all the marinas, thats really bad andyet when I enquired about a berth and would they do a deal to get me in they just shook there heads!

I googled map hamble point sometime ago and the yard was full to overflowing, the photos must have been a few years old as im there often, the yards empty and there are loads of empty berths and some for sale too.

The situation seems to be easing in the South of France. At my local marina I have shot up from 9th to 2nd place on the waiting list in the last few months. For the two years before that I did not move at all.

When I first arrived on the Costa del Sol 8 years ago there was a large waiting list to get into ports. Now you can rock up and get a berth no problem.

Fees have dropped as well, especially via private contracts.

in 2004 you would pay €50k+ for an 18m mooring in Banus. Now you can have it for €15k ish. They were selling for €750k now you can have them for €300k.

Even at these prices there are still gaps. The control towers hold out for maximum price. circa €32k pa.

I heard a rumour that Port Solent had done a deal with two 40-45ft raggies to get free winter berthing this winter as long as they pay for a 12 month contract.

Ie 18 months for the cost of 12 months but it was in effect two winters and one summer.

Premier are offering a free lift and scrub with an annual contract ( existing berth holders don't qualify even if renewing now).

You need to be careful which marina you choose, if you dont like it or sell your boat.

If you cancel mid term you may not get any money back.

MDL charge monthly visitor rates (check as its a couple of years since I checked)

Premier only pay back if they relet your berth, the chances of re letting your chichester/eastbourn berth is slim to none.

My marina in Spain (Empuriabrava, Costa Brava) has held prices for a third year. However IVA (VAT) has increased from 7% (I dunno why marinas had a concession then) to 17% then to 18% this year.
Also the exchange rate was 1.5 a couple of years back and now 1.12 so I feel duly hit.
Lots of space especially sub 10m.

Yep - loads of space in Spain from what I understand from the show.

Swanwick (premier) is full - although I see lots of newcomers these past few months and 2012 +4/5% +++now pay for elect with no credit for what was incl as part of the fee previously.

Hmmmmm thats very interesting.

I had a call from Swanwick a couple of months ago as we had looked at the marina when we moved the boat to the Hamble. The lady asked when our contract with MDL was up and asked if she could re quote nearer the time with the view to making me an attractive offer..........................

Bet they're not willing to offer a deal tho! Had a meeting with Premier ages ago & they were just as insitant as ever that there will be no incentives for continuation or loyalty. Seems that marina companies just assume people will continue to cough up regardless. Complacency perhaps?

Was in Port Solent last week, they offered a deal that made 18 months look very attractive basically the 6 months winter rate was halfed if you booked a further 12 months, Swanwick did this last year, but im sure there pretty booked up now, I also heard the big house build was off for another year, not sure if this is set in stone though< any ideas anyone?
