I have been reading with interest the post about where to moor in the med. One of the posts mentioned marinaempuriabrava. Can anyone give me any more details about it and how feasible is it to transport a sealine 310 statesman there.

We went there to look at our first boat, quiet a network of canals, very modern, but if you have one of the villas it looks pretty good to moor your boat in the garden. Its called Empuriabrava and located above Girona/Barcelona towards France.

This is the view from my helicopter /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I enjoyed my couple of days there, but I understand its mayhem getting out in the summer if you are up the top. If I remember we were quoted about €4000 for a 12m berth in 2005.

I passed by there for an overnight a while ago, and it's a bit like Port Grimaud in south of france. Mainly residential moorings, but with some public access.
However, I did get to see some Premiership football in a local bar, ate some good old fish and chips, and even got some girl action by the end of the evening with a nice English girl on holidays at Dads house with a pleasant view of the 50' Sunseeker moored at the end of the terrace!
Fantastic!

We, and another half dozen forumites have berths there. Pity the MBY search engine is so bad because there are a lot of posts on this subject.
In summary:
It's huge, 5000 moorings but because it's on a canal system you can only see a few dozen boats at any time.
It's huge, hence excellent supermarkets, boat service facilities
Loads of pretty average restaurents
Great cruising area starting just ten minutes away
Probably the only place in the Med where you stand any chance of getting a mooring
I pay about €4500 pa incl elec and water for a 12x4
They speak good English in the office so give them a call
Our part of the Med is quite windy and you get the Tramonteras from time to time. Because of the canal system you don't get waves but it sure blows through sometimes.
Hope this helps
David
ps Can't see any problems getting a boat delivered there, they are well used to doing that sort of thing.

We're there too.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Had our new (to us) Doral Boca Grande (40ft-ish) shipped down from Essex in April and our old boat shipped back - just over £7,000 for the return trip including insurance....

Plenty of transport companies in and out of there all the time - it's the base for Bavaria commissioning (power & sail) for the western Med.

Security/safety from the weather helps me to sleep at night when we're back in the UK.

All in all.......good place.

(See you in November DavidJ???)

I run a Motor yacht training centre in Menorca as well as a Brokerage and general MY services deliveries Charters etc. the best way to get a boat down to Amperiabrava is by road either direct or launch at Port leucat. This is the chosen way of both Fairline and Sunseeker in my experience when delivering for the Balearics. This is due to the trucking companies prefered road routs. If I can be of any help please ask. Port Leucat is about an hour by sea.

I guess it makes the paperwork easier, avoiding getting permission for a wide load in Spain for less than an hour's journey.
Good suggestion but only if it reduces the cost to you.
