Well I'm late to this thread, I've been sailing! On visiting the facilities in Conwy marina I was well impressed always immaculate, clean and well designed. Even had a floral display of lilies! I thought I'd strayed into a 4* hotel.

Certainly a few years back, the Visitors loo, etc cubicle on Rye, Kent town quay was
kept equally immaculate with dried flower display, curtains, etc By a very nice lady

So it was. It's in Sussex, BTW.

Nah, them East Sussex/Kent bunnies, off the graph for us dynamic West Sussex inhabitants, once yer past the firework weirdos at Lewes, it's just like Norfolk wiv hills;)
Bin into Newhaven umpty years apart AND Beach fishing, so bad, makes Yarmouth IoW look like Lymington Dan Bran fer caring customer service:(

Haven't read all 11 pages but somewhere i did add how nice the new facilities in Roscoff marina were.

Add Cherbourg to the list of immaculate new toilet facilities kept also v clean. They have all been completely rebuilt at Cherbourg not just refurbished!

We spent a couple of weeks at Conwy Marina last year. Agree the loos are very well kept as are the showers. Now that we are based in Brighton, I can honestly say that what the earlier posts state is absolutely true there. The cleaners do a reasonable job but certain 'visitors' just leave the cubicles in a real mess - bits of toilet paper, unflushed loos, hairs all over the floor and sink with no effort to wash them away.....and this is only the ladies loos! I'd like to say that as part of the ''liveaboard community'', me and Mr LandM treat the loos as if they are our own because basically .....they are! Not sure who to blame for the cause of all the mess left....but obviously Brighton Marina isn't an isolated case..........

A little thumbs up for an east coast marina's facilities ..........Bradwell. Refurbished, clean smart, roomy , practical. Works...............and the best view whilst enjoying a bite and a pint:encouragement:

.........but why wont people clean up behind themselves when using washbasins???

Must say, Premier Marinas have done a great job of completely rebuilding their shower blocks. Chichester, Port Solent and Swanwick
Yup thumbs up for the newly opened facility at Swanwick, regular cleaning cycles through the day. The daily visitor rate there is bearable even if their long term berthing rates are off the scale.

Interesting. The dutch marina toilets and shower facilities were generally 'spotless' to 'very clean' depending on the time of day and season.

+1

In general Danish marinas are very good in this respect, ours among the best :).
Marinas normally only allow access by code/card as given to visitors at registration, but even if it helps, access control is no guarantee against filth.

For some reason smokers go selectively blind when entering: Apparently can't see the 'No Smoking' and must mix odours of tobacco and ****. :p

Btw both mooring and visitor's fees are quite modest (despite extreme labour costs). Guest fee on average £12 per night for a 30', including WC/bath, power and water

A loo with a view, + beer and food ? I say old boy, is that terribly private or hygenic, or is that the standard sort of thing you get up to on the East Coast ?! :)

It used to be. At the Maybush in Waldringfield, a man could stand at the relieving wall in the gents' and enjoy a view of the whole river through a slit across the wall.

And the smell?
Besides waiting 15 minutes means that someone else will go in before you & repeat the process

Thats a man problem. Have you never noticed how regular we men are with bowel function. The only time you ever see a queue in marina mens toilets is in the 0730 to 0900 time slot when nearly all of us void our bowels.

And the cleanliness or lack of it is also a male problem. At my gym they have several times had to swap the toilets around ie males into female toilets and vice versa. Whenever we get sent into the ladies its always clean and well looked after without paper on the floor etc. It isnt like that a week later.

I remember reading some time ago about a cricket ground where the gents urinal had a window above it so when the beer reservoir needed draining to make space they wouldn't miss an innings.

I found in unisex loos that womens' graffiti is much neater than mens', also much ruder !
