Marina toilets, a moan.

If only someone could invent some sort of secondary drain for sinks which would prevent them from overflowing, eh?

If only :/

Jests aside, the overflows on sinks, especially hand wash sinks, are rarely large enough to cope with both taps on full bore

For reasons I'll never be able to understand some people seem to take great delight in causing as much mess as they can

Fit for porpoise?

Paper and poo filled loos? I believe the problem starts with inadequate flushing power and cisterns that take so long to fill that customers won't take the time to flush again.
Yes people should use brushes, but the prospect of ending with a spikey brush laced with brown and white mush is hardly appealing.
The plumbing should be that bit more gushing in public loos than the water saving pans we should fit in our houses now.
Having just enjoyed a cruise stopping like a local train at nearly every port twixt Suffolk and Dorset the standard was good to great except for occasional pile up caused by the above.

I suspect water saving is indeed an issue and may depend on local byelaws; modern loo syphon units are adjustable for a 7-9 gallon flush, 7 being the usual legal requirement.

However a Niagra Falls effect won't prevent arrogant berks leaving paper around and other mess...

I may have accidentally said gallons instead of these new fangled foreign litre things, but the figures on the side of syphon units are 7-9; I have fitted quite a few, how about you ?

That would be a Niagra Falls effect - modern cisterns in the UK are generally 6 litres/4 litres.

...and then some genius adds one of those "water saving bags" designed to take up space in an older, larger cistern, and you're left with a trickle :/

Must say, Premier Marinas have done a great job of completely rebuilding their shower blocks. Chichester, Port Solent and Swanwick are the ones I know, and they have been refurbished to a very high order - the individual "rooms" (bigger than cubicles) have a shower, loo and washbasin, with piped music and there's even a waiting room with soft furnishings and a TV if there's a queue. By and large, over the past few days at Chi, even with plenty of visitors, they have been kept in pretty good order, though SWMBO did comment that there was a lot of paper scattered round the block one day - has to be kids I guess.

I must say I have enjoyed this thread

the dismay expressed at the inability of the serving class to clear up behind us has been most edifying

in my opinion these loo cleaners should count themselves lucky that they have a job at all in this day and age

I think they should be prepared to work overtime during summer weekends for no extra money at all

OK I must be out of date, though fitted a LOT of syphon units well after 2001 so that needs checking.

I was asked more than once to ' set the flush on max and sod the law '. Of course I couldn't oblige, much as I would have liked to.

While at university, I learned that the cleaners got what they called "dirty money" - £5 in cash if required to remove a turd from a shower.

I'll admit I was shocked that this ever happened at all, let alone was common enough to have a standard procedure.

I still can't fathom how the situation would arise. Yes, a selfish person having shat in the shower probably would leave it for the cleaners, but why would they have done it in the first place?

Yep, checked it for you - Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 Amended 2001. Looks like you did some dodgy installations that didn't comply with the regs if they were new installations....

snail,

despite your ill wishes I have never done anything dodgy or illegal in my life; I am quite sure I will be proven right.

You are a pretty nasty piece of work aren't you ?!

No pleasing some people.

You say it needs checking, I check it and you don't like the fact that it makes it look like you've done some installations that don't comply the regs - how can you be proven right? That sounds dodgy to me, almost cowboy like, are you a qualified plumber? Hope you didn't charge them for it...

I can sleep at night knowing I have gone well above the regulations; have you any similar feeling about anything you do ?

As I suspected, a nasty vindictive little berk with nothing bettter to do than preach idiotic religion ( the source of many a war costing millions of lives )...leading to a lot of people - hundreds of thousands -getting killed...even if I screwed up - which I never have - I might have to try pretty hard to reach those figures !

Ooh dear - I think you are protesting too much now. Really, trying to bring religion into a discussion about plumbing, that is a bit silly - and a bit strange too. Well above the regulations? It looks like you didn't even know what the regulations were. Just more outdated information from you as usual...
