Hi all,
I have just had a call from a friend who is berthed in a marina in the Canaries. There is a boat in the marina that has been impounded by the marina for outstanding mooring fees and it is up for sale at a knockdown price. All I know is that the owner died a couple of years ago and that it is not registered in Spain.
I am sure there are pitfalls with this type of purchase but is it worth even to make enquiries. I would hate to buy a boat and sail it away only to be told that I was not the real owner some years down the line
Thanks in anticipation
Paul.

While in Manoel Yard Malta last year, I noticed a group of yachts at the top of the yard. When I enquired out of curiosity, I was told by the yard they were held for non payments, owners not turning up etc. (One was a beautiful German registered yacht who's owner was reputedly committed to an ayslum some years ago)

The guy told me they had to wait 7 (I think it was) years then they can claim them as payment. They then freely sold them off with great demand from those in the know.

I guess the time must vary from country to country, but I would imagine any reputable yard wouldnt sell a boat they weren't sure about title to.

Hmmm on second thoughts..........
