Does anyone have knowledge of a marina or safe long-term mooring for a 10m seagoing yacht near (say within 20 miles) Lyon? I'm going to need electricity on board and water nearby.
Thinking of somewhere to liveaboard for a while and then do a big refit later. I haven't been to the area yet - is the river even suitable, let alone desireable for a liveaboard?

How accessible is the Rhone that far upstream to a 6kt boat with a 12m air draft? How far up can I go before the stick has to come down?

Any info welcomed.

Going up the Rhone

If going up teh Rhone the first bridge is at Arles - but I do not think you can drop the mast there - unless you have some DIY method - you will need to drop it at Navy Service or Pt Napoleon. Grehans yer man with further info - see other threads on this site or Google

Moorings in and arround Lyon - River Rhone/River Saone

ok - a few answers
1) How far up the Rhone one can go, mast-up, is an interesting one and I don't know the exact answer except to say, probably Arles and there isn't really a facility to de-mast there downstream from the bridge. jimali is correct - go and see Navy Service.
Information about Port St Louis here
2) If you want to moor up longer-term near Lyon (a great city) then you've got a few choices, including les Roches Condrieu which is downstream on the Rhone and quite feasible for living aboard. Report on the River Rhone information page.
There are also a few places upstream, on the River Saone, depending on how far away from the city is acceptable. For example, St Germain. Again, information here about the River Saone. There is going to be a new marina in Lyon itself (see the Saone page) but I don't think it's yet open (information, anyone?) and might not be suitable for living aboard. There are quite a few liveaboard peniches moored alongside at la Perrache, but very little (i.e no) space for new arrivals.

Grehan, sent you an email and a PM in response to your contact.

There are a number of options depending on your draught. We took a 10.5m boat with a 1.7 draught through the canals from Port St. Louis du Rhone to Le Havre and found some suitable moorings near Lyon to meet your requirements. Les Roches de Condrieu would be good, if a bit scruffy. However, it is a real marina and out of the river. Vallence would be better but is further away. Please have a look at my web site giving details of all stops we used: http://yachtvalhalla.wordpress.com/
