Well, it has to be Thetis/Shephards Wharf in Cowes for seriously skanky loos. Even the new block for the boys is always in a dreadful state. We have now taken to taking antiseptic + disinfectant spray/wipes with us..

Now, Yarmouth is an example of how it should be, and it has a higher foot fall...

Good to hear they (finally) changed something down Middelharnis. Used to be the most filthy spot along the Haringvliet. Good news indeed, will check it out next week!

You have to ask yourself why are these loo's so manky....here at Troon they can be just as manky but why??? well I guess it is because the people that use them leave them that way. I think you would not leave your loo at home in the state that some people leave our loo's here at Troon. I guess people think if they are paying good money to berth thier boats they can shit and piss where they like!!!!!! this is normally not down the pan. If we all took a little care I think you would find things a little better.

I get your drift...the loos at Bangor marina N Ireland the best I have ever seen but I think they are under constant scrutiny from the cleaning staff.

Totally agree. Tried a "name & Shame" thread some weeks ago specifically because of these disgusting facilities. Local managers seem unfazed & take no responsibility, even though they pay the bills to a local 'cleaning firm' who send an old man + mop in once a month it seems. I've stopped using Shephards because of this. When you add up the mooring + shower token cost, its not much less than Cowes Yacht Haven (their facilities aint much sweeter either though).
Shephards are relatively new facilities, but the builder got his levels wrong. They use this as an excuse not to keep them clean. Only way to get anything done is to complain to the Harbour Authorities chc@cowes.co.uk and the IOW Environmental Heath Principle Officer (Gareth Davies 01983 823169).
Cowes "The Jewel of UK Sailing" don't make me laugh.

One of the reasons we moved from Queen Anne's Battery to Mayflower was the state of the loos and showers. QAB were happy to keep raising their prices every year but not investing it back in better basic facilities. The berthholders' shower block in Mayflower is much nicer, cleaned every day. even has a proper bathroom.

Why is it that though there are 5 urinals at Bucklers Hard some men? still insist on pissing in/on the wc's and floor.

Obviously those that seek the solitude of the cubicle are embarrassed by the immensity of their manhood and the wet floors result from their inability to handle such powerful equipment, especially whilst in a confined space.

Re: Why this obsession with showering anyway?

On a boat for a few days, a good flannel bath in the privacy of your own heads is all you need if short on water. Pee over the side. OK I agree it's polite in marinas to go ashore for big jobs.

Nicest ones I've seen are at East Cowes, Poole Quay look good but the further back you go the grottier they get, cheapo showers that the water doesn't like to drain from. Yarmouth, nice if expensive, but why did they put the "jeton" slot on the outside of the cubicle? Very curious.

Haven't been to any other marinas, I try to anchor if possible, use a mooring if necessary, and a marina in extremis. I'm too mean to pay £35 to tie up.

Re: Why this obsession with showering anyway?

Sorry but that's not a thought I can afford to have at 12.22 on a working day.

I'd have thought that was EXACTLY the sort of thought to have at 12.22 on a working day!!
