Unbelievably, I think NYACHILWA goes in water this year!! Plan is to go on a swinging mooring in due course but first season I want to be on a pontoon as there will be lots of carrying on and off, fitting of covers, electrical nightmares etc. I think I can get in at Walton(Tichmarsh), Bradwell, Maylandsea...and even maybe (gulp) Burnham. Any views on pros/cons/hidden pitfalls?

Ensure that your anodes are all present and functioning. [Test with a multi-meter for resistance between the anode and and the part to be protected]. There are a lot of stray currents [electrical, not tidal] in a marina which you won't get on a swing mooring.

Short short list:

Mirelle is a swine in marinas – even after I’ve run the bowsprit in, she still displaces ten tons, with all fifteen pony-power going through a prop offset to port and a gear linkage designed by the late Heath Robinson.

I have come to have Decided Views on which marinas I like.

This is actually rather a short list, and consists of:

Ipswich Haven Marina (decent size lock, with practical pontoon in it, good waiting arrangements, lots of hammer heads, less wind and no current)

Titchmarsh has a pontoon on the outside of the marina with really easy access. They're a helpful lot too.

Yes, but...I've always found it either "full" or "back shortly", and had to go right inside, which is no fun. Excellent marina, in other respects.

I was just looking for some photos on my PC but they don't do the long pontoon justice. I was there in April/May last year for 4 weeks and there was never a time when that external bit was even remotely full. It was a long old walk down to the end! I guess I was a bit early as we set off for Inverness on May 9th before things got busy.

You might check out Fambridge. The marina has a waiting list I think but they have "valet" swinging moorings. You phone up before you go down to the boat and they move the boat to a large pontoon on the river. Haven't tried it myself.

Suprised Fambridge has a waiting list as there were big signs up on the road advertising availablity of moorings; shows the advertising worked! Bradwell also has a waiting list. We like Tollesbury but a pig to turn into the pontoon moorings.

The getting in was not a reference to draught (5'8") but to availability, I am looking for experience on things like security, friendliness, facilities etc. But a fair point, I should have been clearer.

Thanks everyone for the advice so far
