Its that time of year again when the Marina fees are due. As I am currently unemployed and looking for work, I have to think of ways to raise cash, or find cheaper moorings a bit further away.

Then it hit me..... Surely most of you Scuttlebutters love your boat as much as I love mine, surely you want the best for your boat, surely you want to show off your boats to all......... surely you need an online log!

Mine is at www.conchpearl.co.uk - It is completely unique but can be altered via a simple control panel. All posts and article can be submitted via a browser or email. Very simple to update.

I realise that this forum isn't for commercial advertising, so if I have broken the forum rule, or offended, I will be happy to delete this post.

Just wondering what people thought.....

The log would have the same features as mine, you would have your own domain name (i.e MYBOAT.co.uk) and all hosting would be taken care of - with no ads.

Re: Or of course you can have one completely free . . .

I know there are cheaper alternatives out there such as Yotblog. The difference is that Yotblog is precisely that - a templated blog, a basic one page updateable site.

The service I offer I can offer woud be a bespoke design of unlimited pages, ad free & fast hosting. I have worked as a web programmer for the BBC for over 7 years, so have experience in giving a professional and unique service.

I realise that its not everybodys cup of tea, but i'm just giving people the opportunity to show off there beloved boats, whilst making a bit of cash towards the upkeep of my own boat.

You can have as many pages as you want on YotBlog - you decide the number of entries per page. There is also a profile page, you can add photies etc etc - pretty much enough for most it would seem.

Good luck with your endeavour, though . . . freelance webbery can be a tough way to pay the mooring fees, especially if you are not generating any repeat income from hosting charges. I predict there will be more (time consuming) support issues than you expect. Perhaps a small monthly charge would be the way to go . . .
