We have heard that there's a new marina here. Has anybody been there? For that matter, if anybody has cruised in Albania we'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

Hello Beluga, we transited through Albania when sailing from Croatia to Corfu. Stopped at Durres, Vlore (including 2 nights at Marina di Orikum) and Butrint. I wrote a report on our experiences for www.noonsite.com which has is filed under Albania.

Marina di Orikum is really quite out of the way from anything, but the area is undergoing quite a bit of development due to the calm waters/protected beaches. As reported it is a join development with an Italian company. They are selling "hotel" style units with marina berths an optional extra. I think one could also just purchase a marina berth separately. The manager lives in a house next to the development and was very friendly and helpful. He drove us into the nearby town/village (2-3km) for bread.
Vlore port is very small and unprotected as well as being commercial rather than for pleasure craft. You are obliged to check in to and out through the port but they will send you to the Marina 5nm south.
If you would like more details than in the noonsite report let me know.
