Anyone been here recently? Everything I've read says they charge lights tax and harbour tax, is this still the case? Or how does it work anyway, would I get stung for the whole lots as I've been in Spanish waters more than 50 days as one website suggests? Shame if they do as it's ideal for the wind tomorrow or next day, Radazul is full, spoke to them already. Any other options, in Las Palmas at the mo.

TIA

Spent a couple of months there in 97, sorry it,s not more recent, we had a good stay with no probs and no extras, lovely SECLUDED weekend anchorage at the NE Point of Tenerife (Antiqerra. SP?) well worth a night or two.

Hi Paddy,

If you aren't too fussed about Santa Cruz and are happy to visit it by car/bus then San Miguel is a good option.

Marina Atlantico was dreadful when we were there - a shame as Santa Cruz is a nice wee city.

Overnight is good.

Expect to hit the WAZ (wind acceleration zone) a few miles out from the coast for an exciting run for the last few miles - it will be going in your direction, so you will enjoy it.

Very jealous - weather is utterly foul here. Give our regards to Doug and Anita on Magic Dragon and to Mina at the marina bar.

Say Hi to Doug & Anita for me as well, also Mike & Sue on Hollly Dee, Tell em It's Mike S.

When you get bored there, head over to La Gomera, might see you from the 15th Feb if you are about ?

Was there 7-21 December 2007. Now much better than Radazul. New facilities block opened the week before we arrived. Cost us (28ft) around 15 Euros per night with no extras.(cheaper than Radazul who had very serious plumbing problems the week before when we were there.) Very convenient location.

From our experience I would say that all the negative comments about Marina del Atlantico may now need revising.

Excellent news - sadly a bit late for Conochair, who I guess is now in San Miguel. Still, it's a fun beat back up the coast /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have added your comments as an update to the entry on my website.

Thanks for the info Kiwiwina, I am in (rather nice, I like it anyway) marina San Miguel but with hire car for couple of days so need to be near everything not so essential, but I'l be heading up to Santa Cruz for a look tomorrow, . Tenerife - what an Island!! Area around Teide is just unbelievable, I've never seen lava before. Amazing!
Only problem is that I need to be in London next monday and only easy flights (not arriving after midnight) seem to be from Gran Canaria which ugib show as being upwind or the foreseeable future....
At least I've got a week to figure it out!

cheers - Padz

If you need to reposition yourself between islands (as opposed to the boat) to take flights for example have a look at Binter Canarias. We used them a lot while in the islands. Very pleased.

Did you go to the top of El Teide? Expensive but I paid up and went.

I was blown away by the Canaries. Went to all 8 islands. #1 Jaw dropping moment, looking down into the Caldera de Taburiente on La Palma.

It was not full at all. In fact they were in the process of closing Pontoon 5 (on the seaward side of the basin) while we were there due to lack of business. The last few boats were being moved off.

Before the ARC leaves it is very full. Elsewhere pre Arc departure availabilty varies. Our experience.

Isla Graciosa was very busy Oct-Nov.
Marina Rubicon on Lanzarote. Excellent marina but just a bit twee and precious. Plenty of Space. Mid Nov.
Forget Fuerteventura IMHO unless you want to anchor.
Tenerife: We got berths in Radazul and Marina Atlantico late Nov-Mid dec plus a haul out in Santa Cruz which required a few days notice.
La Gomera Nice spot with friendly staff if getting a bit tired and in need of some TLC. Pretty full but berths available mid/late december.

We never phoned ahead or booked while in the Canaries Oct-Dec 2007. We just showed up and always got a berth. (LOA 28ft). Our policy was that if we liked the marina and the boat was secure we would stay a while and sometimes fly to adjacent islands. We moored at Isla Graciosa, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Tenerife and La Gomera but visited all 8 islands.
