Hi guys

We need to fly home for a weekend in June and expect to be lying near Dubrovnik.can anyone recommend a good marina with good links to airport?a quick google showed ACI but they charge 100 euros a night...we were hoping for something (a lot) cheaper.

Cavtat harbour is right by the airport. The two bays facing north both have anchorages with buoys, but the anchorages are open to the NW. Sometimes berths are available behind harbour breakwaters. So a lot depends how long, or whether, you wish to leave the boat untended.

Thanks for the suggestion Jim , will check the pilot book. We're only going to be away for a few days but wouldn't want starfire anchored. Perhaps a buoy works.

Ps off topic thanks for your excellent website, it's helped us a lot with our med adventures.

We were in Cavat a couple of times last year and there were no bouys. When the wind was N or NW the swell was horrible and we nearly hit the quay with our stern. I would not leave a boat unattended on the quay.

ACI Dubrovnik is not cheap but that is the going rate. Very well protected. Also has great amenities. No where else nearby

Surprised the buoys have gone. They were very useful since the main harbour is quite deep and has poor holding.
I spent one long uncomfortable night repeatedly re-anchoring here in a strong easterly!
Tiha the eastern bay has more shelter from the daily NW wind but is more open to a strong overnight N or NE wind.
Tiha is shallower but again has poor weedy holding and I have observed several yachts dragging here.
I wouldn't leave a boat anchored here unattended. But if the buoys re-appear it should be fine for a weekend.
Incidentally in a Bora the harbourmaster may tell you to leave Tiha for the main harbour overnight.
The other place to try if you don't fancy pricy Dubrovnik marina, is the old commercial harbour Gruz.
You could also investigate Slano a bit further up the coast.

Try Marina Kastela

Don't let this put you off though! :) This vid was taken after the worst of the storm!!! It was an interesting experience, one that I don't feel the need to repeat. We were moored bows to on the sea wall. The marina was still being finished in Nov 2004 and the ground chains had not been tested. If we hadn't been on-board we'd have lost the boat we took in appx 10 mtrs of the ground chain....
Good marina though & close to Split Airport. Doubt if anything is cheap in Croatia.

Great video.
Had to be 70 knots steady?
Had a similar blow in Montenegro a few years ago..Bora?Ours was..in Oct from memory.
PS Person looking for a berth you could use Porto Montenegro. An 80 euro taxi from Dubrovnik.
The Bay of Kotor is simply spectacular.
PS and visit a new country and get a stamp in your passport!
