I intend to move my catamaran to the BVI this winter from England where it is presently. I will probably do my Atlantic crossing beginning in late November. In the mean time I am looking for a marina south somewhere like the Southern France, Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar etc. where I can move it to in Sept. and leave there for a couple of months while I wait for the November move. Being a 50 ft. cat the options are further limited as it appears. I need a secure marina as I may be away for a couple of months before moving on. Does anyone have any suggestions??

a few suggestions for you, nazare ,north portugal,i think they can put you on the hard, as they have a good hoist and reasonable rates,i don't think they would have room afloat but its very sheltered and secure so worth contacting them, sines marina sheltered and secure, smir marina ,morrocco,if of any intrest,i can get you some contact numbers etc for the above alsoits worth checking when the winter season starts,as some start beginning sept some beginning oct i think

Thank you orizaba. The first one wouldn't work as I don't plan to pull the boat out of the water. Any contact info on the others would be appreciated.

the reason i mentioned lifting the boat out was, it is probably cheaper to lift a cat out for 3 months than leave it in the water, depending on when winter rates start,i would agree over the other 2 posts regarding lagos and portimao, not been there but have heard good things about them

There are only 2 marinas in Gibraltar now, Marina Bay (at the airport) and Queensway Quay on the west side of the rock. Queensway Quay is a secure marina. Both marinas are fairly busy so berths are at a premium. Gib is a populr stop over for boats heading south for the ARC. Contacting the marinas and booking a berth would be recommended.

You might also consider Marina Smir in Morocco but on the Med side, about 10 miles south of Ceuta (or 4/5 hour sail from Gib). Although it is not secure as such but there is always plenty of room and it is cheaper than Gib. Very friendly place.

Thank you for the suggestions. Queens.. in Gibraltar emailed that they do not have space. Lagos looks really nice but pricey (my math put it at 1350 Euro/month). Mayby I'm just from the wrong side of the world CDN??
