So I put on the Marigolds to check out the poorly function loo and found that the Joker valve lobes were sortof permanently open.
I imagine that on the upstroke, the lobes close to some extent but when the pump was new ( just a few months ago) the joker valve lobes were completely closed.
Punchline: How important is the condition of the Joker valve to the satisfactory operation of the pump?

(Sorry to disturb your Saturday lunchtime with this topic but I have the loo in bits at the moment and want this Marigold Moment over and done with!!)

The joker valve is crucial to correct operation - it stops backflow into the pump on the upstroke of the handle. Sounds like you need to replace it!

Our heads packed up while the boat was in Foxs Marina on the Orwell .. No problem at all until she got back to where she came from some 14 months earlier .
Took top off to investigate and found a stainless washer inside .. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif ..

Removed and all back to normal .. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .. Would have thought it would have lasted longer than a couple of months ..

Thanks, the Marigolds are off.
I had a Joker in somewhat better condition and did the substitution which fixed the problem.
It seems that when the Jokers are new the lobes give a perfect seal and in the fullness of time they open up until they eventually cease to function.
I think its a crap design ----that may be a very apt turn of phrase!!!!

Our Jabsco components last several years (2-3) and we liveaboard. I used to service them after 2 years and it caused more trouble and solved no problem.

I am staggered that yours would only last months. There has to be more to it than meets the eye.

You're not disposing of thinners or some other chemicals down there? Bleach? What toilet cleaners are you using?

possible it was just a poor one fitted in the factory. if the second doesn't last long, i'd start looking for answers, otherwise wouldn't worry too much. More often that not they tend to just get "caked" and can be easily cleaned or replaced.

No Lemain, I am not but I may have to review my diet of curries . chillies, Thia spices and other toxic ingredients.

I think it was just a bad Joke(r) gone down the toilet as they often do.
