Marieholm 26 on eBay

Here is a list of the details I used when selling my last boat. Look through it, and draft up a list of questions, this list may help to jog memory.

Jouet 680

Price £5995

Year: 1979
Serial Number: 131
Designer: Jean Berret
Lying: Burnham On Crouch, Essex
SSR Registered
Over 400 of these well balanced small boats were made, and there is a strong owners association in France. Very sturdy in construction, the 680s have a complete inner moulding to stiffen the hull and form the accommodation.

Overview
Only purchased in 2003, Second Chance has undergone a £4750 refit during Winter 2003/ Spring 2004 and has been used this season for teaching partner (and co-owner) Lynn to sail. Whilst in exceptional condition for the year, there are a small number of cosmetic jobs to do this winter if required. This boat is in a genuine sailaway condition.
Lynn liked her introduction to sailing so much, we have bought a Jeanneau 35, and therefore Second Chance is regrettably for sale.

Superman is right. Before going I would ask what is she made from (wood? GRP?) how old is she and is there a recent survey?

The same boat(?) is on Boats and Outboards which may give you an indication of what he is looking to get for her.

We had a Marieholm 26 until a couple of years ago. Marvellous boat to sail, and built like a brick shthouse. Only issues we had were -

Some osmosis - hull is solid fibreglass, so easily fixed.

Corrosion in toe rail due to stanchions not being insulated when originally constructed.

Some corrosion at base of mast - this is a deck stepped mast.

Some motor issues - ours was a Yanmar YSM8 - if engine is original, it will be around 25 years old

Backstay anchoring tangs are flimsy.

Area behind engine is difficult to access without removing engine, so watch for maintenance on cockpit drain seacock, and on propshaft seal.

Also note -

Keel is fibreglass encapsulated lead, so you need to check for any damage to bottom of keel.

Deck is foam sandwich, so the usual precautions apply.

Can only agree with Tisme. These are superb boats. I had a Marieholm IF boat for many years (same hull and rig, smaller accommodation).
They are fast in all conditions and seaworthy. Modern fractional rig with big main so only two headsails needed, roller reefing is a luxury but certainly not essential.
The designer (Tord Sunden of Folkboat fame) was asked where he stowed his engine, he said: "in the garden shed". So throw that old engine in the skip!
Sunden designed the hull as a GRP interpretation of the Folkboat but it is longer and has much greater interior volume.
The Contessa 26 took more UK sails because the Marieholm was an expensive boat, but to my mind the Swedish IF boat it is the most attractive GRP yacht ever built.
I might be able to dig out a review of the boat if you are interested. Brian.
