Now looks as though she will finish inside the next 24 hours (although weakening breeze may hold he up a tad). If the speed holds up she will have knocked well over two days off the record, and will have taken significantly less than 7 days for the crossing.

Truly astonishing performance. Although Britain will claim the record, it is a sobering to note that apart from the owner there is only one British sailor in the crew list..

not too sobering tho?

um, if the non-brit crew are better or cheaper, there's surely no problem? Lots of the parts or materials might be from anywhere around the world too. Mari-cha sounds a bit of a foreign name, but not to worry, I think?

Have a look at http://www.mari-cha4.com to see how hard we in the colonies and the French have worked to get you in the record books.

I dont think it's a case of cheaper where this man is concerned ... just a reflection of the dearth of top ocean racing talent in the UK at the moment. We may pick up lots of medals at ISAF worlds, Olympics, rule in every kind of skiff, do very well in the Open classes - but when it comes to ocean racing (where did we finish in the last few Admirals Cups) we aren't up there with the leaders, at the moment.
